Good morning,
I am writing to share an opportunity for families to get involved at our school. School Council is a representative, school building-based committee composed of the principal, parents, teachers, and students. The group meets monthly and serves as an advisory board to the principal. At SSCPS the School Council is an active group that plays an important role in guiding new initiatives and developing policies. Each year the School Council monitors progress on the current School Improvement Plan and develops the School Improvement Plan for the following year. We are looking for parents and guardians who are willing to be part of our School Council this year. Ideally, we would like representation from each Level. Meetings will start in mid October. We will determine the meeting dates and times based on what works best for the membership. If you are interested, please complete this form. Thank you for your consideration, Angie -- Angie Pepin Principal, K-12 South Shore Charter Public School 781-982-4202 x10

Welcome to the 2022-2023 School Year. We are so excited to see all of the students back in school and we wanted to go over a few updates for this school year. Medication drop off: You are still required to drop off all medication for your student(s) and hand it directly to one of the nurses. No medication should be transported on the buses by a student. We are available for medication drop off on Thursday, 8/25 and Monday, 8/29 during school hours. You can also drop off any day next week while school is in session. Please make sure to have a new doctor medication form or action plan filled out, it is required to have a new one every school year. If your doctor’s office does not have their own medication form please use the one in the attached link. Parents/guardians also need to sign the medication authorization form. http://files.sscps.org/browsable/Health+Office/FY21%20Prescription%20Medication%20Release.pdf Water: Please have your student bring a reusable water bottle to school every day. Water fountains are available to refill. Cups will no longer be available and students are able to use the water fountain if needed. Sick student at school: If your student becomes sick at school, you will be called to come pick up your child. They will not be able to stay at school until the buses arrive for dismissal. Please make sure you fill out the Emergency Contact form with 2 contacts other than a parent. Please make sure to have a back up plan for someone to pick up your child in case of an emergency or illness and you are unable to come. COVID-19 Protocols: This year there is NO requirement to wear a mask but students still have the option to wear one. Masks need to be brought in from home if you would like your student to wear one. There will be NO COVID testing at school this year, this includes in school symptomatic testing, weekly testing or sending home test kits. It is the responsibility of the guardian to test if a student is symptomatic or sent home from school. Quarantine is not required if you are a close contact. It is recommended to test on Day 6 after exposure or if symptoms occur. It is also recommended to wear a mask from the date of known exposure through Day 10. Symptomatic individuals should stay home from school and test at home. If the student develops symptoms at school they will be sent home and asked to test at home. They can return to school if a negative test results and symptoms are improving. For a positive at home COVID test, Day 0 is when symptoms begin or day of test if asymptomatic. Individuals should isolate for 5 days and may return to school on Day 6 if symptoms have resolved. They are required to wear a mask from Day 6-10 only. Please call the appropriate health office or email [email protected], if your student tests positive for COVID at home. Please reach out for any questions or concerns, Darcie Edwards, RN (K-8) [email protected] Jaime Kjelgaard, RN (K-8) [email protected] Barbara Folan, RN (High School) [email protected] We are pleased to provide the bus schedules and routes for the South Shore Charter Public School for the upcoming school year. To ensure the safety of all students who ride in buses, it may occasionally be necessary to revoke the privilege of transportation from a student who abuses this privilege. Parents/guardians of children whose behavior and misconduct on school buses endangers the health, safety, and welfare of other riders will be notified that their children face the loss of transportation privileges in accordance with regulations approved by the Board of Trustees. These regulations will be included in the SSCPS Student and Family Handbook which will be sent to families next week. Families must sign either electronically or on paper indicating that the regulations contained in the Student and Family Handbook have been received and read. Thank you for your response and your continued support of the South Shore Charter Public School. Good morning, As we count down the last days of school, we are looking ahead to summer reading. The summer reading list and related assignments are now posted on our website. Please look for the list here. Students should read the books for the grade that they are entering in the fall. Kristen Gale, Literacy Coach and Reading Specialist, has organized a summer reading book fair with Storybook Cove to help get these titles into the hands of our K-8 students. The book fair runs from June 13th through June 24th. Please find information on how to order books on the attached flyer. Please note that the book fair does not open until Monday. Happy Reading! Savage Executive Director South Shore Charter Public School 781.982.4202 Ext. 101 www.sscps.org Dear SSCPS Families,
It is with deep regret that I write to you today about a loss to our school community. Susan Knineh, bus driver and owner of the FCC Transportation Company, died unexpectedly yesterday. Susan had a longstanding relationship with our school both as a parent and as the owner of the transportation service so many families have relied upon over the years. Today will be the final run of the FCC bus. Please keep Susan and her family in your thoughts during this difficult time. This loss is sure to raise many emotions, concerns, and questions for our entire school, especially our students. The South Shore Charter Public School has a Crisis Intervention Team made up of professionals trained to help with the needs of students, families, and school personnel at difficult times such as this. We have counselors available for any student who may need or want help of any type of assistance surrounding this loss. Counselors will be available to students tomorrow morning and throughout the day. We encourage you, as family members, to also feel free to contact us if you need support. Linked below please find some additional information from The Children's Room that may be useful to you when discussing grief with your child at home. If you would like additional information or need assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me or any member of our school's administration directly. Sincerely, Alicia How Can I Help My Grieving Child Talking with Children and Teens About Death Helping Children and Teens Cope -- Alicia E. Savage Executive Director South Shore Charter Public School 781.982.4202 Ext. 101 www.sscps.org During the month of April, the South Shore Charter Educational Fund will be raising funds to use toward the different Projects and Workshops held every year for students at SSCPS. Teachers throughout our school have taken on the responsibility of creating and overseeing different interactive Projects for our Level I-IV students, as well as developmental and educational Workshops for our high schoolers.
Through these Projects and Workshops, students of all ages are able to learn various skills in incredibly diverse areas. This year, our High School students were able to choose from 20+ Workshops centered on topics ranging from health and wellness, to racial justice, to statistics and Mock Trial. Our Level I-IV students have been participating in smaller-scale Projects throughout the year that include taking trips to farms, making slideshows, creating and putting on plays, and even learning how to code. These Projects and Workshops are an integral part of our students' learning experience at SSCPS. Extracurricular subjects and activities allow students to explore different interests, find new passions, and develop critical skills as they advance in their education year after year. We're able to offer these opportunities to our students because of the generous support we receive from our community. If you'd like to make a donation to help fund these Projects and Workshops, you can do so below! MAKE A DONATION Thank you to all of our families who have completed the Annual Family Survey. Over the past two years, family participation has been high. For those families who have not done so already, please remember to complete the 2022 Annual Family Survey by Friday, April 1, 2022.
Survey data is used for the Annual Report and for institutional planning during the July Board of Trustees meeting. Data gleaned from this year's survey is an essential component of school-wide planning as we continue to hone our vision of the SSCPS student experience. Maintaining school culture and student life continues to be a priority. We rely on data provided by families to establish programs, design next year's schedule, and work to enhance the day to day life of an SSCPS student. Please be sure your voice is heard by completing the survey link below. Thank you! SURVEY LINK Dear SSCPS Families,
Earlier this week Governor Baker announced that the Massachusetts mask mandate for school districts will expire on February 28 and not be extended. The DESE memorandum sent by Commissioner Jeff Riley on February 9, 2022 is attached for your reference. The memo states the following: After consulting with medical experts and state health officials, the Commissioner will not renew the state mask requirement after it expires on February 28, 2022. Effective Monday, February 28, the DESE mask requirement will be lifted statewide. The Commonwealth’s high vaccination rates and widespread availability of COVID-19 testing for school personnel and students supports this decision. The South Shore Charter Public School will continue to follow DESE and DPH recommendations and will adopt the mask optional policy for students and staff beginning on February 28, 2022. The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) and the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) strongly recommend that unvaccinated individuals continue to wear masks in school settings. In line with DESE and DPH recommendations, mask wearing will continue to be required in three scenarios: 1. In compliance with the DESE-DPH Protocols for Responding to COVID-19 Scenarios, mask wearing is required for all students and staff returning from quarantine for up to five days, inside and outside while attending school or work to align with quarantine timelines and guidance. 2. The SSCPS Health Office will continue to require students and staff to wear a mask while in the Health Office in compliance with the DPH order. 3. Masks must be worn on all school buses and school transportation per federal mandate. Please remember that individual students and staff members retain the right to wear a mask on campus at any time regardless of health protocols or immunization status. The decision to continue to wear a mask in the school setting is a personal one and will be supported by our school community. Sincerely, Alicia E. Savage Executive Director South Shore Charter Public School 781.982.4202 Ext. 101 www.sscps.org Dear SSCPS Families: At the South Shore Charter Public School, keeping your students safe has remained our first priority. We are writing to let you know, in accordance with the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) and the Department of Public Health (DPH), our school is updating our COVID-19 Testing Program, effective January 31, 2022. We are opting into an at-home testing program that will increase testing of our participating students and staff, regardless of vaccination status. For more information about this update to the statewide testing program, please click here. The at-home testing option will begin during the week of January 31, 2022. In addition to this new at-home antigen test option, we will continue with routine COVID safety checks (pool testing) and symptomatic testing during the week. As part of this shift in the program, we are discontinuing Test and Stay and contact tracing for in-school close contacts. This means that if your child is a potential contact in school, they may continue to come to school and do not have to quarantine. This new at-home testing opportunity is voluntary and only those who opt-in will receive tests. We are sending hard copies of this form home with your student today. We strongly encourage you to fill out the form by Wednesday, January 26, to opt-in. If you do not opt in by Wednesday, you may opt in for the next round of at-home antigen testing in two weeks. If you have questions, please contact one of our nurses in the Health Office. COVID-19 Testing Programs in our Schools:
