Dear Families, This school year the South Shore Charter Public School will continue to use SchoolPass to facilitate dismissal. SchoolPass is a communication tool that allows families to sign a child in late, dismiss a child early, and change dismissal plans using a simple phone app. The app also facilitates an efficient dismissal process directly from classrooms. This year families will not be required to complete daily wellness checks using the app. SchoolPass sent activation emails to our families last week. The email included account information and instructions for activating your account. Please take a minute to set up your account as soon as possible. Please ignore the “pickup location” field. All K-8 students will be picked up at 100 Longwater Circle and all high school students will be picked up at the high school. Once the account has been created, you can download the SchoolPass app on your phone. The registered parent will be able to add other adults that are authorized to pick up. You are able to change dismissal plans directly through the app or the website. More information about the SchoolPass app can be found here. A video explaining the process is available here. Use the password +9GHLACR to access this short training. We will be using the SchoolPass app to run dismissal at both buildings beginning tomorrow. You will click “Pick Up” once you are on campus to notify your child’s teacher that you have arrived. Please wait to click the "Pick Up" button until directed to do so by a staff member. This will help us stagger the timing of students coming out to their cars. This system is new to many of our families and we understand that not everyone will be able to use it immediately. We appreciate that there is a learning curve with any new system and will work with families to make it work. Thank you for your patience as we work to get SchoolPass up and running! Sincerely, Angie -- Angie Pepin Principal, K-12 South Shore Charter Public School 781-982-4202 x102 Good afternoon,
Thank you for your efforts to get the wellness portion of the SchoolPass application up and running this week. The majority of our families were able to use the app or the SchoolPass website to complete their wellness checks this week. This significantly streamlines our arrival process. You can expect a reminder email in your inbox each day your child is expected at school. Wellness checks must be completed for every child every day they physically attend school. Wellness checks may be completed before you leave the house. Next week we will be using SchoolPass for dismissal at both buildings. When you arrive on campus you will be asked to check yourself in using the app. To check-in, click the Pick Up button in the app. Next, click "Carline Check-in." Please wait to click the button until you are asked to. We are working hard to make sure that we keep students physically distanced. Spacing the carline check-in helps us in these efforts. If the driver does not have access to the SchoolPass app an administrator will check-in for you. Please let me know if you need access to SchoolPass. I can resend the welcome email so that you can get up and running. Thank you for your continued understanding and patience. Best, Angie -- Angie Pepin Principal, K-12 South Shore Charter Public School 781-982-4202 x102 Dear Level 2 Families,
We are enhancing our programming with Amplify Reading, a supplemental reading curriculum that can be accessed from home. The games in Amplify Reading provide students with the opportunity to practice and build their literacy skills in an engaging, game-based format. The program will allow for students to practice skills in their “just right” place and for teachers to track student progress toward mastering reading skills. Students should use Amplify Reading for 45 minutes each week. We suggest that your child practices in three 15 minute sessions each week. Your child’s teacher will provide guidance as to the best times for your child to use the program during the school day. For optimal experience, we recommend students use headphones and a mouse (when possible) with the devices outlined below. Follow these steps to use Amplify Reading at home. Amplify Reading can be played across a variety of devices.
You can expect more information from your child’s teacher as we implement Amplify reading. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with questions. Sincerely, Angie Pepin, Principal, K-12 Hello SSCPS Families,
As many of you know, SSCPS is going to a 1:1 Chromebook program. It is the goal of SSCPS to loan one Chromebook per attending student. This includes all students K through 12. Chromebook devices have been back-ordered around the country. We have to prioritize handing out our limited existing stock of Chromebooks. Please go to our Chromebook Request registration page to fill out one form for each student who does not have a laptop or desktop at home. Families can request more than one device by filling out this form per student. We are using FamilyID.com to manage requests. SSCPS uses this for Athletic and Food Service programs. Once you create an account on FamilyID.com and register student(s), you can continue to select those students for future programs. For more information about FamilyID, you can go to http://hello.familyid.com/for-families and watch this video. After we receive requests, we will contact you with further information regarding picking up your student's Chromebook(s). Once we receive additional Chromebooks we will contact the rest of our families. Best, Ralph (a/k/a Rio) p.s. If you still have a Chromebook from the spring and/or summer school, please return it to the table outside our 100 Longwater Drive location. Many are no longer supported by vendors and need to be modified to continue to use. -- Ralph deGennaro Director Of Technology South Shore Charter Public School 781-982-4202 ext. 111 [email protected] http://www.sscps.org/ Dear SSCPS Families, For new families, welcome! For returning families, welcome back! While only a component of our Reopening Plan, technology is playing a larger role in your child's education during the 2020-2021 academic year. I am hoping this letter will answer some of your questions and help get the year started for you and your children attending SSCPS. All of this information can also be found on our school website (https://www.sscps.org/apps/pages/index.jsp?uREC_ID=461078&type=d). A quick synopsis of what to expect is:
A little more details follow on each topic. I also encourage you to go to sscps.org, click on "Families" at the top, and look through the information posted, especially the Tech Resources. PlusPortals PlusPortals is used to communicate classwork and grading. Please use your parent account; students will receive their own account and are expected to use it at school and at home. PlusPortals does require a pretty secure password that contains uppercase letters, lowercase letters, and numbers. If you think your child is likely to forget this password, feel free to email it to their teachers. We already have a secure place to keep this information. If your activation email has expired, you can call the school or email [email protected] for another activation email. You can also contact us to add an additional parent/guardian. If your student(s) have forgotten their password, teachers are the best person to contact to make sure that the education process is not interrupted. Google Accounts All students K - 12 will get their own Google Account. This account is used for their Chromebook, and all of Google Suite (including Classroom, Meet, GMail, Calendar, Keep, etc.). Returning students should know their account name. If they do not, the best contact during the year is their teacher. You can also email [email protected] or [email protected]. Regarding passwords, the younger students (K - 2) will use Clever Badges; please contact your Pod teacher once the year has started. Students 3 - 12 are expected to remember their own password to use at school and at home. If you think your child is likely to forget this password, feel free to email it to their teachers. We already have a secure place to keep this information. 1:1 Chromebooks Each student will receive an 11" Chromebook. Due to shortages and upgrades throughout the years, there are different models. All models have a headphone/mic combo port (similar to many smartphones) as well as support Bluetooth headsets. Will be emailing about our plan to deal with shortages in the next few days. Schoolpass.com We will be using Schoolpass.com for morning wellness checks before arrival as well as coordinating carlines during dismissal. Schoolpass.com provides apps for iPhones and Android phones. Each morning, before you drop off your student(s), you will need to submit a wellness check for each student through Schoolpass.com. During dismissal, there will still be adults involved. Schoolpass.com allows SSCPS to coordinate cars as they come onto campus, get students to their carline, and maintain safety practices throughout the process. Additional information will be provided in the near future. ----- We know this, as well as everything else, is a lot of information to digest. If you lose this email, please look for Tech Resources under Families on sscps.org. To make sure education is not interrupted, our teachers are also a good person to contact. You can always use [email protected] for technical issues as well. And always feel free to contact me directly if you have any questions or concerns. Best, Ralph (a/k/a Rio) UPDATE 8/31/2020
Dear SSCPS Families, I wanted to email our Level I and Level II families to clarify Google Account information and PlusPortal information. Google Accounts All returning students in grades 1 through 3 will receive their Google Account information from their Pod Teacher. The default password is still "sscps123". This first week that the teachers are back is very busy. Please be patient. Also, no students in grades K through 4 will have email on their Google Account. They will still be able to use their account to log into Classroom, Drive, Meet, etc. PlusPortals Accounts At this point in time, we do not use PlusPortals with students in grades K through 4. Parents do not use PlusPortals either. Any information on the new student account PDFs was left in error.
