Please register on FamilyID.com Please visit www.ProjectBread.org to find a location distributing meals during the break and for important information Welcome to the 2021-2022 school year! For those of you new to SSCPS, my name is Charlene Salamone and I am the Food Services Coordinator. My role at SSCPS is to ensure that our school offers our students nutritious and healthy meals during school days. Since SSCPS does not have cafeteria’s, we offer our students a “Grab and Go” hot or cold meal which complies with the nutritional guidelines set by the National School Lunch and Breakfast Program.
For your convenience, this year we will continue with our online meal ordering system called FamilyID. You are able to order your child’s meals online. All families must register each child in FamilyID. Please visit the SSCPS Familyid Programs webpage to register your child. To learn more on how to register your child click here to watch a quick video. If you need any assistance with FamilyID registration, please call (781)205-2800 or email [email protected]. All meal orders will be made directly through this online system. For the start of this school year, we are asking all families to provide their child with a reusable water bottle. Since we have eliminated the drinking fountains in the school, it is necessary for children to be able to fill up their water bottles instead of using the drinking fountain. We will offer two lunch choices per day for in school learning, as the school year continues we hope to add in a salad as a third lunch choice. Your child may order a breakfast and one lunch choice per day per child. Please review the menus carefully and order them accurately. Orders are due on Tuesdays, no later than 3:00 pm the previous week. Meals can be ordered weekly or monthly. Even though meals are free to all students you may want to fill out a Free/Reduced Application because it may qualify your family to receive benefits from other state funded programs i.e Pandemic EBT cards. Here is the application and instructions to apply for the Free/ Reduced National School Lunch and Breakfast Program meal benefits. If you need assistance on completing this form, please reach out to me. All applications must be printed, completed, and signed and sent directly to my attention. Finally, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call me at 781-982-4202 ext. 156 or email me at [email protected]. We have begun to explore the possibility of a Middle School fee-based after-school program at SSCPS. The program would be run by the YMCA in the Fall for our Middle School students. In order to move forward with developing this program, the YMCA has asked us to gauge interest through a survey. We are asking families to fill out this survey to better determine the need for after-school care for our middle school students. This survey does not guarantee that a program will be developed nor does it guarantee a spot for your child(ren) if it does get developed. The survey is quick and only involves 2 multiple choice questions! I hope you will help us by filling this form out: https://docs.google.com/.../1FAIpQLSe3kKKx.../viewform The deadline to fill the form out is Monday, June 21st. Thank you, Krista Cafourek 5-8 Assistant Principal Dear SSCPS Families,
We are excited to be back and continue to expand towards where we were pre-COVID! We appreciate your patience and understanding while we work to get Afterschool programming back up and running for SSCPS. We have approval to open for K-5 students Afterschool and are working towards some additions to programming for the future. If you intend to have your child(ren) attend our programming, please contact the Afterschool Director, Shirley Zayas ([email protected]), for an Enrollment Packet so that we can start the registration process. The process is first come first serve, so get yours in to get the spot reserved as space is limited. More details to come for the next school year in the Fall about programming as we conclude the current one. Be well, Shirley Zayas [email protected] Director of Before & Afterschool South Shore YMCA Emilson Branch 1075 Washington Street Hanover MA 02339 Phone: 781-826-7900 Ext. 5241 Dear SSCPS Families, Good afternoon. The purpose of this email is to provide you with an overview of some of the statewide changes to the health and safety protocols we have been following. Attached for your review please find the latest Frequently Asked Questions installment from the DESE. Yesterday, the Commissioner of Education met with school leaders to discuss the latest guidelines and the impact it will have on the remaining days of the school year. We will transition to the new guidelines on Monday, May 24. This will allow students, teachers, and families to prepare for the protocol shifts safely. The most significant changes to our current protocol are, first, students no longer have to wear masks outdoors, even if distance cannot be maintained. And second, schools no longer have to avoid sharing objects. Although the new guidance points to shifts in a positive direction, it is important to remember that the COVID-19 pandemic is not yet over. We are asking all families to discuss the changes with their students to alleviate any concerns they may have. Teachers will be doing the same in classrooms so that the messaging is consistent and reassuring. Because students will be able to remove masks outside for longer periods of time we are recommending that families send children to school wearing clothes with pockets for clean mask storage during outside time. We continue to recommend that students come to school with two masks; one to wear, and one as a spare. Yesterday DESE released updates to the K12 Graduation Guidance. Changes were made based upon the most recent CDC and state guidance. The May 19, 2021 updated graduation guidance is also attached for your convenience. Families of graduating seniors may expect additional communication early next week. Thank you for your ongoing flexibility and commitment to our school. Sincerely, Alicia -- Alicia E. Dear Families, The DESE recently made some changes to MCAS administration for this spring. Please find our updated MCAS schedule below. These dates are significantly later than they would be in a typical year. We are working on a plan to administer the tests in a way that has as little impact on instructional time as possible. The DESE has provided a remote testing option for students in grades 3-8 only. All remote students in grades 3-8 will test remotely. Remote 3-8 families can expect more information about remote testing in the next few weeks. 2021 MCAS Dates Thank you for your continued support of our students and our school despite the ever-changing circumstances of this school year. Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions.
Best, Angie -- Angie Pepin Principal, K-12 South Shore Charter Public School 781-982-4202 x102 Dear SSCPS Families,
As we move toward welcoming more students to in-person learning, I wanted to provide you with some updates and reminders regarding COVID-19 health and safety protocols. As voted on by the Board of Trustees last night, our school will follow the recommendations of the DPH and CDC for quarantine, isolation, and travel as indicated on the links below. Governor Baker has modified the travel restrictions to a travel advisory and SSCPS school policy will dovetail those modifications accordingly. The Massachusetts Travel Advisory may be found here. CDC recommendations regarding quarantine and isolation may be found here. We look forward to welcoming students who choose full in person learning in grades 6-8 back on Wednesday, April 28. We are excited to announce that all high school students are invited to return for full in-person learning on Monday, May 3, 2021. Full remote learning remains an option for all students and families. As more students return to campus, I would like to remind families of the COVID-19 testing programs we have in place that are free and voluntary for all students learning in person. We strongly encourage families to register for the testing programs here at school to help us keep the school environment as safe as possible and to limit learning disruptions. Included below is a message from the Health Office which provides two important updates to the testing programs as well as sign up links. Thank you for all you do to support the learning and teaching here at SSCPS. I wish you a happy, healthy, and restful April vacation. Sincerely, Alicia -- Alicia E. Please be aware that all students enrolled at SSCPS qualify for Free Breakfast and Lunch for the 2020-2021 academic year. Please click on this link FamilyID Online Registration and register for meals. If you have any questions, contact me at [email protected] or at 781-982-4202 x156. Charlene Salamone Food Services Coordinator The Health Office is now running 2 separate COVID testing programs. Both of these tests are voluntary. In order to participate in each program you will need to sign up for them separately.
The BinaxNow Rapid Test is for students/staff that develop COVID-like symptoms while at school. This test can be administered at school and results are available in fifteen (15) minutes. Students/staff will still be required to leave school, even with a negative test result. Positive results are presumed positives and students will be required to isolate. Register your student for Symptomatic Rapid COVID testing with the following link: https://app.beacontesting.com/register/with-code?code=EKMBEX Pool Testing is a weekly COVID test for students and staff. Students will be tested on the weeks they are in person learning. This program is not available to remote students. Pool testing is when a number (usually 5-10) swabs are put in the same tube and a PCR test is done on the batch/pool. If the pool comes back negative, it is presumed all individuals in this pool are negative. If the pool comes back positive, each student is individually tested using the BinaxNow Rapid test done at school. Any positive students will be sent home to isolate and contact tracing will be done. If all students come back negative with the rapid testing, each student will then have an individual PCR test to be sent out from school. All students will be asked to quarantine until the PCR results come back. When you sign consent for pool testing, you are consenting for all 3 types of testing to be done at school (pool testing, rapid antigen and individual PCR testing). Register your student for weekly pool testing with the following link: https://app.beacontesting.com/register/with-code?code=WPWCQJ Please see the Health Office page on the SSCPS website for more information on rapid and pooled testing, along with other COVID-19 information. If you have any additional questions or need any additional information please do not hesitate to reach out to the nursing staff.
